About Speed Mingle
In 2001, a young entrepreneur in Omaha, Nebraska, founded Speed Mingle, seeking an innovative way for people to interact and meet. Seeking an alternative to traditional dating options for themselves and their friends, the entrepreneur introduced the flagship concepts “The 4 Minute Date,” “Lock & Key,” and “Dine in the Dark.”
In 2004, as the event gained momentum, it arrived in Birmingham, Alabama. Among the attendees was Brad Peters, the current owner. Intrigued by the concept, Peters considered purchasing a license to host events in the area. However, negotiations regarding the investment he was willing to make in the new venture were unsuccessful.
Over time, Brad reconsidered licensing the area in 2006 but ultimately decided to purchase the concept. Subsequently, he relocated the operation from Omaha, Nebraska, to Birmingham, Alabama. From 2006 to 2009, numerous events were held across the USA, primarily in the Southeast. These events were similar but expanded to include LGBTQ+, friendship, couples, and business networking events.
However, as the economy took a downturn in 2009, holding events became more challenging due to the increasing popularity of dating and hookup websites. Consequently, the concept went on a fourteen-year hiatus.
In the summer of 2024, Brad unveiled and modernized his concepts, preparing for a relaunch on the Gulf Coast of the United States in the fall. The journey will commence in Pensacola, Florida and surrounding areas, where the initial events will take place.
Speed Mingle has prioritized participants’ privacy during its redevelopment process, empowering them to control what information they share and when through a web app for each event. This enables individuals to connect for friendship, dating, or business purposes at events, irrespective of gender, race, or sexual preference, by matching them based on shared interests. Traditional dating has significantly evolved over the years, and Speed Mingle aims to reflect these changes and offer a more inclusive and personalized experience.
Additionally, the innovative format empowers businesses and groups to host one-off events without committing to a long-term license. This flexibility enables them to generate additional revenue during typically slow nights, maximizing the potential of their current business ventures.
